How Much Does a Website Cost in Mauritius in 2026?

Ask three agencies in Mauritius what a website costs and you will get three answers separated by a factor of ten. That is not because anyone is being dishonest. It is because "a website" covers everything from a one-page brochure to a stock-managed online store. This guide breaks the question down into the parts that actually drive the price, gives you the rupee ranges currently quoted on the local market, and shows you where the recurring costs hide.

Why website prices in Mauritius vary so much

Four things move the number on a quote more than anything else:

  • Page count and unique layouts. Five pages that share one template cost far less than five pages designed individually.
  • Custom design vs. a template. A bought theme adapted to your logo is a few days of work. A design drawn around your brand and your customer journey is a few weeks.
  • Functionality. A contact form is trivial. Online payments, stock levels, bookings, customer accounts, multi-language content and an admin panel each add real engineering time.
  • Who builds it. A student on the side, a freelancer, a local agency and an international studio price the same brief very differently, and they carry very different risk if something breaks in month eight.

The mistake most business owners make is comparing quotes on price alone when the scope behind each one is different. Before you compare anything, ask every provider for the same list: number of pages, who writes the content, who supplies photos, whether the CMS lets you edit it yourself, what happens after launch, and what you pay in year two.

Landing page or brochure site

One to five pages, your services, your credibility, a contact form. This is the right first step for a consultant, a tradesperson, a clinic or a new venture that mostly needs to exist convincingly on Google and WhatsApp. It should take days, not months, and it should still load fast and be indexed properly. Ours start at Rs 6,000 including a .com domain for the first year.

Multi-page business website

Ten to thirty pages, a real content structure, service pages built to rank for the terms your customers search, a blog, and an admin panel so you are not paying someone every time a price changes. This is where most established Mauritian SMEs land, and where SEO starts paying for itself.

E-commerce store

Everything above plus a product catalogue, checkout, delivery rules, stock, order management and a payment gateway. The gateway is its own decision with its own monthly cost, which we cover in the Mauritius payment gateway comparison. Budget for product photography and product descriptions too. On a 200-product catalogue that work often costs more than the site itself.

Custom platforms and AI-powered tools

Booking engines, client portals, quoting tools, dashboards, or an assistant that answers customer questions from your own documents. These are quoted per brief because the scope genuinely varies. See our AI solutions page for what that looks like in practice.

The recurring costs most quotes leave out

The build price is the part everyone compares. The running cost is the part that surprises people in month thirteen. A complete budget has five lines:

  1. Domain name. A .com is modest. A .mu is not: international registrars list .mu domains well above typical gTLD prices, and local providers quote domain setup separately. Confirm the current rate with your registrar before you commit to a .mu.
  2. Hosting. Shared hosting in Mauritius is commonly quoted from a few hundred rupees a month; managed VPS runs into the thousands. Modern static sites can often be hosted on global infrastructure for far less, with better speed for overseas visitors.
  3. SSL certificate. Should be free and automatic in 2026. If someone is billing you separately for a basic certificate, ask why.
  4. Maintenance and updates. Security patches, backups, plugin updates, small content changes. On a WordPress site this is not optional; unmaintained installs get compromised.
  5. Payment gateway fees. If you sell online, a monthly subscription plus per-transaction charges applies. Budget it from day one.

SME grants that can cover up to 80% of your website

This is the part most business owners in Mauritius do not know about. SME Mauritius Ltd runs support schemes, including the Technology and Innovation Scheme (TINS) and the Market Readiness Scheme (MRS), that refund a share of eligible costs. Website development, e-catalogues, branding and social media integration are listed among eligible items, with the schemes covering 80% of itemised eligible cost and the SME contributing the remaining 20%.

Grant ceilings under TINS are published by category, from Rs 50,000 up to Rs 250,000 depending on which category your business falls into. Broad eligibility conditions published by SME Mauritius include annual turnover below Rs 100 million, at least 51% Mauritian shareholding, being compliant on CSG contributions, and a minimum operating history. Processing takes a stated minimum of ten weeks.

What you actually give up on a very cheap website

There is nothing wrong with a small budget. There is something wrong with a Rs 3,000 site that quietly costs you customers. The things that get cut first are the things that are invisible on the day of delivery:

  • Speed. Heavy themes and unoptimised images push load times past the point where mobile visitors leave. Core Web Vitals are a Google ranking signal, and most Mauritian traffic is mobile.
  • Search visibility. No page titles, no meta descriptions, no structured data, no sitemap, and no keyword intent behind the page structure means you will not be found for anything except your own company name.
  • Ownership. Ask directly: who owns the domain, the hosting account and the source code? If the answer is the developer, you are renting your own business identity.
  • Maintenance. An abandoned WordPress install with outdated plugins is a security incident waiting to happen.
  • Legal compliance. If your site collects any personal data, the Data Protection Act 2017 applies to you. We cover what that requires in the Mauritius data protection guide.

Seven questions to ask before you sign a quote

  1. What exactly is in scope, page by page, and what triggers extra billing?
  2. Who writes the content and who supplies the photographs?
  3. Can I edit the content myself after launch, and will you show me how?
  4. What do I pay in year two, in total, including domain, hosting and maintenance?
  5. Do I own the domain, hosting account and code?
  6. What SEO is included at build time, and what will you show me to prove it?
  7. What is the delivery timeline, and what happens if something breaks after launch?

Any provider worth hiring will answer all seven in writing without hesitating.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a basic website cost in Mauritius?

A simple one-page or brochure website in Mauritius is typically quoted between Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000 by local providers. Nexstack's Starter package begins at Rs 6,000 and includes a responsive landing page, a .com domain for the first year, SEO setup and a contact form.

Do domain and hosting cost extra in Mauritius?

Usually yes. Most quotes cover the build only, with the domain, hosting, SSL and maintenance billed separately each year. Nexstack Starter sites renew at Rs 1,500 per year covering hosting, domain renewal and security updates, and Tailored sites are Rs 500 per month for hosting and maintenance.

Can I get a grant to pay for my website in Mauritius?

Possibly. SME Mauritius Ltd runs schemes including the Technology and Innovation Scheme and the Market Readiness Scheme, which cover 80% of eligible itemised costs, with website development among the eligible items. Conditions include a turnover below Rs 100 million, at least 51% Mauritian shareholding and CSG compliance. Confirm the current terms with SME Mauritius, and apply before committing to the spend.

How much does website maintenance cost per year in Mauritius?

Expect anywhere from around Rs 1,500 per year for a small static site to several thousand rupees per month for a maintained WordPress or e-commerce site with hosting, backups, updates and support. Always ask for the year-two total in writing before you sign.

How long does it take to build a website in Mauritius?

A landing page can be live in a few days once content is ready. A multi-page business site typically takes two to six weeks, and an e-commerce store four to twelve weeks depending on catalogue size and payment integration. Content and photography are the most common cause of delay, not development.
